Its with a very heavy heart I advise of the passing of Redcliffe City Junior Cricket Club life member Mr Len Dimmick aged 83.
We send our deepest and most sincere condolences to Len’s family and friends.
Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone that knew Len.
The club and the game was a better place because of Len.
I spoke with a number of other life members today including great mate Murray Ryan who spoke of his great mate of over 50 years, reminiscing about days at the club with kids playing cricket, fishing together every Friday night and manning the changes rooms together at the Gabba for 20 years- a photo of the two of them at the Gabba in November 2000 is below.
According to his mates, Len was just one of the blokes that if I job needed doing, he would be the first to put his hand up, if someone needed a hand, it would be Len that was the first there.
I had the privilege to meet Len and chatting to him about Redcliffe Junior Cricket always brought out a spark in him and a twinkle in his eye, talking about the friendships made through the club, kids playing cricket and the many good times together.
Len embodied all that is good about Cricket, our Club and Community. He embodied the Cyclones values.
We paid tribute to Len this season by naming our u11s team after him and his family.
While Len’s innings has come to end, it was one hell of knock.
The club will pay tribute to Len at our games next week, more details to come.
Anyone wishing to pay their respects can do so, the details for celebrating Len’s life are:
Great Northern Garden of Remembrance, 31 Tallowwood Drive, Deception Bay on Thursday, 23rd of November at 10am.
Rest Easy Len, you will be greatly missed and thank you on behalf of a grateful club.
- Neal Smith (Cyclones President)
