Season 2022-2023 Review

Updated: Sep 24, 2023

The summer season of cricket for 2022-2023 was massive for the cyclones. There was so much going on at the club in such a short time. Here are the highlights -

Championships:

  • Under 15 champions in both before and after Christmas competitions.

  • Under 13 champions in both before and after Christmas competitions.

Brisbane North Junior Cricket Association:

At the BNJCA awards night the cyclones were recognised with a number of team and individual awards, which is an amazing achievement for us being such a small club.

Blasters:

  • We got 17 out of 19 weeks of blasters in... unfortunately 2 sessions were rained out.

  • Master Blasters stats: 27 matches, 250 wickets, 21 maidens bowled, 619 Fours, 82 Sixes and a total of 3971 runs scored.

  • Junior and master blasters having a joint-club blasters night at the UQ Cricket club in St. Lucia. First time ever that our Junior blasters represented the cyclones away from Filmer Park.

  • Blasters on-field before both innings during the first Brisbane Heat match of the season at the Gabba.

Highlights:

  • Cyclones with the Aussie men’s team during the Anthem at the Gabba.

  • A significant number of cyclones players stepping up to play in older age groups.

  • Seeing players grow and improve as people and cricketers.

  • Player’s volunteering, help each other, implementing and upholding the club values.

  • Isaac from Under 13's making the QLD representative side.

  • Running additional activities such as specialist coaching sessions, representative try-outs and development squad.

  • Presentation day with all our players, coaches, families and life members. It was an excellent day with food trucks and lots of cricket being played.

  • Blasters coordinator Paul being recognised as the December 2022 Queensland Cricket Volunteer of the Month for Brisbane North.

Off-field:

  • New treasurer and blasters coordinator.

  • Outlining of our constitution.

  • New gazebos for each of our age level teams.

  • Trivia Night was held with lots of support from our community. Great prizes and lots of fun on the night for all that attended. The trivia night was a success and a great fundraiser for our club.

  • Engagement with parent, players and our community. For example:

    • Our families pulled together for a donation of food and goods for the Breakfast Club charity.

    • Donating gear to Forbes area after their devastating floods.

  • Working with Brisbane North Junior Cricket Association(BNJCA), Queensland Cricket and Cricket Australia.

We can't wait to see what season 2023-2024 brings.
