Match Reports

U13 - Gower

Our pre Christmas season finished with a one dayer against the undefeated Toombul Bulls at Langdon. Isaac kept his perfect record and won the toss again and chose to bowl first on a damp surface. The Bulls started strongly and wickets were hard to come by. They were set to post a big total but through the middle overs Connor changed the game with 2 wickets and a run out in a matter of overs. Some tight bowling towards the end and the Bulls ended up with a manageable 110. Lots of missed chances in the field costs us a few runs today. Wicket takers, Connor 2/11, Hayden 1/7 and Callum 1/14

Our batting innings started off slowly but we kept wickets in hand. At drinks the boys realised we needed to up the scoring rate and at one stage I thought they could pull it off, but too much was left until the final overs and we fell 17 runs short. Travis 35, Issac and Braxton with 15 each were amongst the runs.

Final scores

Bulls 6/110 def Cyclones 5/93

U15 - Devine

It rained very heavily the night before our match and it was anticipated we would need to be moved from Filmer Park. Due to the amazing work of the Peninsula Cricket Club grounds keepers the pitch was dry. Just off the pitch needed a bit of drying but the match was able to get underway after a short delay. With only 8 players the team did put in their best effort of the entire season. Bowling first the team put on an great display of bowling and fielding with the highlight being Isaac's 4 wickets, 2 of which were bowled. Also Riley taking 3 wickets of which 2 were also bowled. They took all of the Lakes wickets and restricted them to a total of 116.

Jake and Oliver opened the innings with a steady 21 runs which was the teams highest opening partnership for the season. The highlights of the batting were Charlie 30 from 30 and Jake 16 (retired not out). Abhi's big hitting display at the end had the Cyclones supporters cheering. Post match the team's life member Greg put on pizza's for the boys which was very much appreciated.

Player of the match was Braeden with an awesome catch.

The team would like to send out a thank you to two very important people:

  • Scott - The coach for the pre-Christmas season. The team sends you a big thank you for your time and dedication this season and will miss your guidance in the post-Christmas season.

  • Greg - Our life member whom the team is named after. Greg attended every match and passed on some absolute words of wisdom to the team. It was a pleasure and privilege to have you around the team and have you as the teams namesake.

U15 - McDonald

We went into the last round leading the table but knowing that any one of 5 teams could technically win the premiership depending on results in the last round. Travelling to Valleys to face one of those 5 teams, we were presented with a damp field, sticky wicket and hot, humid conditions. Winning the toss, we put them into bat and boy did it pay off. Bodhi and Hayden picking up early wickets and combining well. From there everyone did their bit with Matthys, Tyson, Harry and Arya all picking up wickets. We held onto all of our catches, Riley taking a screamer at point diving forward. One of the best team performances I have seen in the field for some time, dismissing the opposition for 51 in 18 overs.

Enter our star opening duo with the bat, Jake and Cooper had no problem chasing down the 51 runs in just under 6 overs. Chasing bonus points to secure first position our team went on to amass 180 runs off 24 overs, Rohan finishing the innings off in style with 16 off the last over and Mankaran scoring his first runs for our team in his first season of cricket.

An outstanding result for an outstanding bunch of young adults. I wish to thank all of them for their dedication, focus and for having so much fun together as a team. Huge thank you to the parents who helped out through the season with scoring and umpiring, your roles in the kids’ success this season cannot be underestimated.

Well done to Jamey, who joined us this season and took her first wicket for the Cyclones against Sandgate at a critical moment in the match. It’s never easy being the only girl in a team and I hope you really enjoy having a couple more girls in the team after Christmas.

Congratulations to Bodhi on stepping into the captaincy role this season and doing a stellar job with a massive amount of maturity.

Time to celebrate!

Editor Note: A very big shout out to the coach of the U15 McDonald team Mark. He has been an marvellous coach and inspiration to the players who you have mentored as well as a great ambassador for the club over the years. Mark will be a great loss to the club as he won't be coaching with the Cyclones next year.
