Match Reports
U10 - Ryan
U10 Ryan captain for the day Noah presented Murray Ryan (Life Member #12) with his life member shirt and we took the opportunity to get a photo to commemorate the occasion.
U13 - Gower
U13 Gower played their round four game away against North Lakes Red.
Isaac won the toss yet again and elected to bat first. A solid contribution from the top order laid the foundations however we weren’t able to go with it and post a big total, nevertheless the boys managed a respectable 187 after being bowled out in the 52nd over.
Braxton once again opened with great poise and remained unbeaten on 45, just shy of his first half century. Travis 41 and Isaac 38 also batted well and took their opportunities to score when presented.
A wet start to day two saw a 20-minute delay while we used the super sopper to dry out the pitch. Once it was fit for play, we got underway. A lot was said during the week about our bowling plans, general fielding and energy in the field and we weren’t let down. Luke broke through with his first ball in the second over of the match which was quickly followed up by two more from Issac, although his hattrick ball was a bit astray. Shortly after Jesse dismantle the stumps and going into drinks The Lakes were four down for not many.
However, the Lakes then built a solid parentship and sapped the energy out of the Cyclones. Over rates were lagging and the chat had stopped. Fill in for the game Kai came on and rattled the stumps to liven things up and the boys sung Happy Birthday to him while waiting for the next batsman to come in. 5 down with about 50 to get. The boys got a pep talk during the last drinks break and a reminder that they weren’t out of it. Callum responded by dismissing the set batsman, once again rearranging the woodwork and proving there was still hope. 24 to get with 4 wickets in hand. Enter Blake bowling a superb over to take 2 wickets in two balls sending stumps flying everywhere. Excitement was now fever pitch. Next over Zac continued, having bowled well all day without luck got the batsman to spoon one up and the Lakes were 9 down. The Lakes still had their retired batsman to come back with 21 still needed for victory. Blake and Zac bowled again before Isacc brought himself back on. On the last ball of his over he slipped on through the gate and the Cyclones had triumphed by 8 runs.
Wicket takers: Issac 3/18, Blake 2/13, Jesse 1/6, Callum 1/8 Kai 1/11, Zac S 1/14 and Luke 1/17
A very exiting match for all involved and a lesson that you are never out of it and cricket can change very quickly.
Final scores:
Redcliffe Cyclones 9/187 (all out) def
The Lakes Red all out for 179
U13 - Stimpson
A slow outfield made scoring runs tough for U13 Stimpson today but they all battled the conditions and high bounces with their heads up. As we neared the end of the morning we had 3 batters that were retired not out so we started sending them back in to keep fighting. An amazing partnership from 2 of these players - Finlay and Tyson. They came back in at 33 overs and managed to keep the bowlers at bay for an impressive 17 overs before our final wicket fell leaving Finlay and Jamey retired not out.
Tyson played an amazing match today and, very deservedly won one of our POW certificates.
Our other POW went to Jesse. Although he had a rough outing at the crease this morning, we are so impressed with his improvement and tenacity during the season. He will not quit!
Richard will be away next week so we took some time at the end of the morning to thank our coaches for their hard work this season.
U15 - McDonald
The one that got away! Chasing 202 and starting the day at 0/22, we were in the box seat to make it 4 wins from 4. Unfortunately our heads just weren’t in the game today. After a poor LBW decision early, Rohan, Riley and Bodhi provided plenty of resistance to the bowling attack, but the runs just weren’t flowing and the urgency wasn’t there. This made it a difficult run chase in the back half of the innings as the run rate required slowly crept up and eventually had us swinging out. 1 game to go in the season and still a good chance of taking out the premiership, but we need to learn from today, bounce back and up the strike rate next week.
Batting:
Rohan 23 off 70
Bodhi 21 n.o off 61
We were privileged to have our namesake life member Jamie McDonald join us this morning for a few yarns and to meet the team. Thanks Jamie.
