Match Reports

U13 - Stimpson

U13 Stimpson did us proud this morning!

They came in at 2/9 chasing 262.

Most notably from today’s game were the ZERO ducks. Every player managed to score some runs before being dismissed and all came off holding their heads high to applause from their teammates.

Just before 11 we paused the game to line up. Jamey did a beautiful reading of the Ode and we observed a minute silence to honour the fallen.

Play then continued and our team hit their stride. Our newest player Jesse bowled his first over for the team today and picked up a wicket assisted by an amazing catch from one of our MVPs for today, Finn. Finn and Heston both batted fantastically today and scored 25 and 22 runs respectively by being calm and patient under the pressure from the opposition.

The team managed a very respectable 10/124 with Ruby being retired after 40 balls, not out.

U13 - Gower

U13 Redcliffe Cyclones Gower Vs. Albany Creek

U13 Gower played their round three game at home against Albany Creek.

It was a special morning having Kevin Gower Snr. attend, a life member of the Cyclones and who our U13 is named after. It was also a special moment for Callum Gold, Connor Smith and Zachary Crawley who were presented with their baggy blues by Kevin, Neil and Isaac. (photos in last weeks match report)

Following formalities, Isaac won the toss and sent Albany Creek in on a damp morning. Our bowling was tight early without any luck. Our first wicket came from a runout after keeping the scoring rate down and building pressure on the batting side. Hayden bowled well picking up our next wicket, before Jessie managed 2 wickets in two balls. Zak S. and Callum also chimed in with wickets coupled with a few more runouts, Albany Creek finished the day on 8/160. Jessie 2/4, Hayden 1/3 Callum 1/21 and Zak S 1/32

Batting on day two we lost Travis early to a spectacular one-handed catch. Braxton played a chanceless innings opening the batting retiring after 60 balls. Jadyen was great support batting for almost an hour and holding up an end. We steadily lost wickets throughout the day but the total was in sight. A great 8th wicket partnership between Blake and Callum had the end in sight before Callum skied one right after the drinks break. This brought Braxton back out to the crease. Cyclones requiring 30 runs to win off 15 overs with 1 wicket in hand. Unfortunately, due to slow over rates, Albany Creek didn’t complete their overs. Braxton and Blake were edging closer to the victory target and I had every belief that they would have got us there. In the end we were awarded the victory courtesy of penalty runs.

I was super proud of the boys today who battled through some tense moments of the game and really valued their wickets, something we have lacked in the past. Special mentions to Braxton 23no, Blake 31no and Jayden and Callum for their exceptional support and determination to hold up an end, ensuring we didn’t get bowled out.

Both teams also observed a minute silence, lining up on either side of the pitch, with captains from both teams reading out the ode. A mark of respect for all of those who have fallen. We will remember them.

Final scores:

Redcliffe Cyclones 8/184 def

Albany Creek 8/160

U15 - McDonald

Presented with a damp pitch at Sandgate and chasing 237 for a win, Jake and Cooper got us off to a flyer and 0/44 after 8 overs. We always knew this would be a close tussle as a top of the table clash. A couple of quick wickets saw Bodhi and Riley start to build a partnership until a dodgy decision gave Riley out caught behind off the thigh. Bodhi and Matthys then set about putting on an 85 run partnership before retiring not out and really setting the scene for us to go on and win. Whilst we always seemed to be in control of this game, it took contributions from a number of players throughout the innings to get us home - building partnerships and keeping the runs flowing. Special shout out to Emily K for subbing in and scoring a quick 11 from 8 balls. A gritty team performance to grind out this win and now proudly sitting atop the table. Keep it up team.

Batting:

Matthys 63n.o. off 62

Cooper 35 off 33

Bodhi 31n.o. Off 58

Tyson 25 off 26.
