Match Reports
U13 - Gower
U13 Gower welcomed two new players to the group for the start of 2024, Cohen and Ethan.
We started our 2024 fixture with an away game against Albany Creek. A field with ankle high grass greeted us which made scoring tough for both teams.
First time captain Luke won the toss and elected to bowl first. Although no early wickets were to come, scoring was kept to minimum with only 6 runs conceded off the first 5 overs. I was impressed by the tight bowling throughout the innings first up from the break. Brax taking 2 wickets, Luke, Travis, Connor and Jessie each taking 1 and restricting Albany Creek to 7/62 off their 26 overs.
They say small totals are sometimes the trickiest to chase and this proved to be so early with the Cyclones finding themselves in a spot of bother at 4/30 early on. However, captain Luke took on the responsibility of guiding the team home in a player of the match performance with an unbeaten half century, the first of his career. He also had some great support from Hayden and Connor in the middle order as well as Braxton early.
Final scores:
Redcliffe Cyclones 6/117 def
Albany Creek 7/62
U13 - Stimpson
What a first match of the season! So unbelievably close for U13 Stimpson - just missing out by 2 runs.
Under a humid and breezeless sky, we won the toss and opted to bowl first. The team fielded brilliantly and keeping 9 of the 11 opposing players in single digits before being dismissed. Some great maiden overs from Kai, Tyson and Darcy and really limiting the extras helped keep the total score in single figures. The wickets kept falling with Ruby, Kai, Darcy, Finlay and Ziggy all taking great catches with 2 stand out bowl and catch combos from Kai and Ziggy. After bowling the other team 10-71 we fought back and batted all our overs for a super close 8-69 with our newest player Darcy retiring not out on 3 runs. Some dodgy mowing and slow outfields made scoring runs hard with Kai managing to score our only 2 fours. Eventually it all came down to our last 2 players. With 2 runs to go on the last ball of the last over, the opposition managed to get a final and crucial wicket just keeping our team at bay. An excellent match all round and the team should be very proud of themselves!
Our stand out mentions for today and our MVPs - Ziggy and Darcy.
Ziggy was responsible for completing 6 out of the 10 wickets. He got a run out, a catch, bowl and catch combo, bowled 2 more (one being LBW) and a stumping. Amazing effort!
Our other MVP went to out newest player, Darcy. Coming from only playing a little in the backyard (by his own admission) his very first over was a maiden and later in the morning he took a spectacular catch, getting us another wicket.
Some really great team work and cricket on show today. Looking forward to the next match.
