7/38 vs 5/136 - Cyclones win!
Saturday morning saw us win our first game of this half of the season. The kids played as a unified team with some great bowling, tight fielding and awesome batting.
Our players of the match Hannah T with a 3 wicket haul for just 5 runs and Hunter S for his grit and determination when batting (retired, not out) and some great on field skill.
The other hero of our match being our amazing Coach - James - thank you for all you do!
The kids value your opinion much more than ours and we are grateful for the time you volunteer for our kids and the Cyclones club!
Highlights:
Hannah T - bowling 3 overs, 3/5
Hayden R - batting 28* off 32
U13 - Stimpson
The Hawks won the toss and put us in to bat. Among our openers were some enthusiastic but sometimes impulsive batters with clear instructions to stand firm and keep the ball on the ground! While enthusiasm sometimes got the better of them, they dug in, and the runs began to tick over steadily. By the 10th over, we had put up a solid 29 runs and already retired our first two batters—a promising start!
Just as momentum was building, the Hawks struck back with a flurry of quick wickets—two catches and a run-out in the space of four overs. But our next batters refused to be rattled, injecting fresh energy into the game and adding another 20 runs before we retired a third player. Even as the Hawks tightened their bowling, slowing the run rate with a couple of maidens, we kept pushing forward, and at 3-62, yet another batter had retired—a testament to the resilience of our line-up.
The opposition’s bowling attack remained relentless, and despite another retired player, the next few overs saw another maiden and three wickets fall, leaving us at 6-67. But this was no ordinary innings. With our retired players returning to the crease, our openers knuckled down and fought back, steadily accumulating singles, doubles, and the occasional boundary. One retiree, after standing firm for 37 deliveries, eventually fell to a well-taken catch, but not before making a valuable contribution.
As we entered the final stretch, our total had already surpassed our previous best for the season, edging tantalisingly close to a team century. The final two batters knew exactly what was at stake, playing a composed, strategic game. With time and overs in hand, they picked up crucial singles and a well-earned boundary, despite the Hawks’ disciplined bowling, which included several more maidens. As we approached the 50th over, our captain led by example, finding the gaps for boundaries and a hard-fought three. Even when the Hawks finally ended his reign, he had already added two more boundaries and a crucial double, helping push our final score to a season-best of 10-145.
A remarkable stat from the game: our early wickets meant that our total was virtually built by just five players! This incredible achievement earned three of them our Cross My Heart Café Player of the Week awards:
Oli – 19 from 37 balls | Taj – 20 from 59 balls | Jesse – finishing the match not out, 3 from 61 balls
Special mentions also go to our other retirees: Ruby, who stood strong with 8 from 34, and our captain Ethan, who led from the front with a mammoth innings of 48 from 75 balls.
It was an outstanding effort from the entire team, showing resilience, patience, and determination. With our highest score of the season so far, we couldn’t be prouder of their performance—well done, team!

Shoutout from the behind the boundary:
A big shout-out to Tyler S for his batting effort. With only 7 players available the goal for the batting innings was to stay in the crease as long as possible against a full strength opposition. Not only did Tyler stay in the crease frustrating the opposition bowlers for 90 minutes, facing 24 overs (80% of the Cyclones batting innings ) ... he did it as the opening batter. Well done Tyler for showing the club values of Tenacity and Resilience whilst facing a big uphill battle.
