Match Reports

U10 Martin

Highlights:

Xavier H - bowling - 4 overs 3/18.

U12 - Ryan Dimmick

Ryan Dimmick won the toss and again elected to bowl. Quick runs were put on by the opposition

and it proved a tough game for our kids. We had a couple of classic catches and shared the wickets amongst the team but some missed opportunities turned into a decent score on the board for the opposition.

When we hit the pitch to bat we had some fast bowling to face, losing a couple of wickets quickly. Our 3rd placed batsman got stuck in and added some much needed runs. A bit of a pace attack from the team saw us lose another couple of wickets before number six put on 22 runs not out.

Our bottom order fell despite their best efforts and we were all out for 69 in 17 overs.

Our two ‘Cross my heart’ cafe players of the match Round 3 went to Oscar for his fielding and bowling (2 for 9) and some blindingly high catches to get underneath and Eddie P batter extraordinaire, 22 not out.

U13 - Stimpson

Picking up from last week, the Cyclones resumed their bowling attack at over 15, determined to make an early impact. However, Valleys wasted no time, sending a boundary racing to the fence almost immediately. But the Cyclones weren’t about to back down. Rallying quickly, our bowlers tightened their performance, conceding just a single and one extra over the next four overs—two of which were magnificent maiden wickets.

The pressure was on, and our bowlers delivered! Over the next nine overs, they sent down four more maidens, giving away just 10 runs to leave Valleys struggling at 3-52. One of our newest players then struck—clean bowling a batter and sending a shockwave through the opposition. The very next over, another Valley wicket tumbled, bowled out and sent packing.

As the heat intensified, the Valleys batters dug deep, finding gaps and picking up crucial runs. Our bowlers, though tiring, refused to give in. Then came the turning point—a brilliantly executed run-out in the 41st over that lifted team spirits! But Valleys had already edged past our first-innings score and were now looking to extend their lead. The Cyclones responded with a final push, sending down more tight overs and claiming two wickets in near succession. After 49 overs, Valleys declared at 8-114.

With a target in sight, the Cyclones marched back in to bat, this time sending in previously unused batters to face the challenge. It was a tough start—our first two wickets fell within the opening two overs, both clean-bowled by Valleys. But then, our captain stepped up. The mission was clear: protect the wicket and make every ball count. And he delivered in style! Smashing a four, then launching the only six of the entire match, he led from the front.

The Valleys bowlers responded by tightening their line, forcing a maiden over, but the Cyclones kept the scoreboard ticking. At 2-17 after four overs, the match took an unfortunate turn—Valleys' primary scorer had to leave, and due to a system issue, the remainder of the game wasn’t properly recorded. However, by the time stumps were called, we had powered our way to 3-64, retiring 2 players for the first time this season.

Our Cross My Heart Cafe Player of the Day went to Ethan, for his outstanding leadership and stellar batting performance of 36 runs off 28 balls, retiring not out.

A brilliant effort from the team—great bowling, disciplined fielding, and an exciting second innings with the bat! Well done, Cyclones!
