U11 Smith-Wheeler

Under 11 Smith-Wheeler v Albany creek Night Hawks

Our Under 11 Smith-Wheeler team were lucky enough to play on the main oval at Albany Creek cricket club yesterday, however we had some tough competition from the Albany creek Night Hawks.

The boys batted first and Ben held his wicket and steadied the team, but unfortunately we lost a lot of quick wickets with some very fast and talented bowlers and fielders. Hugo and Max then took over with a handy partnership keeping us in the game. They both held their wicket and retired not out and Max then top scored with 29 off 27 balls with 6 x 4’s.

The Night Hawks came out looking sharp but our boys were ready and their bowling was spectacular. Each of the boys really stepped up and we had the batters very nervous. Max cleaned bowled one of the opening batsmen and Tyson and Hugo combined for another early wicket. Sam and Max then teamed up with Joseph for 2 more wickets, and Max ended with the impressive figures of 2 wickets, 1 maiden off 3 overs. There were some glimpses of brilliance in the field, but it wasn’t enough to stop the opposition from winning convincingly. Despite the loss the boys should be very proud of their efforts, improvement and sportsmanship

Final score - Cyclones 8/68, Albany creek 4/126.

Our Cross my Heart cafe player of the week went to Max

U12 - Ryan - Dimmick

vs Under 12 Valley Gold.

What a brilliantly sunny day for cricket at Langdon Park. We were up against tough competition who just last week bowled another team all out for 25 runs.

Ryan-Dimmick won the toss and elected to bat but we had some work to do and our beginning batters put the effort in to stay consistent and tick over with early runs. A couple of unfortunate wickets left the score a little low before our mid and tail enders did well with the bat and running between the wickets to get the total up.

Cyclones batted well, valuing their wicket and posting an admirable 110. With some tight bowling from the Cyclones the Valley’s met their target only to be bowled out just 2 balls later. In what was a really close game we are, as always, proud of the team’s persistence, resilience and competitive spirit right the way through.

U13 - Stimpson

After a last-minute change of venue, the Cyclones U13s faced Valley Navy at Ray Frawley Fields for the start of a two-day match. Winning the toss, Cyclones chose to bat first and introduced a new opening pair—one in just their second time as an opener and another making their debut. The Valleys bowler delivered a maiden in the opening over, and it quickly became clear that runs would be hard to come by. In the very next over, we lost our first batter, bowled out by some sharp bowling. With a slow outfield and consistent pressure from Valleys, the scoreboard ticked over slowly. By the 9th over, we had managed 15 runs when our second batter was also bowled.

A change of batters brought some renewed energy, and our remaining opener reached a personal best of 7 runs before retiring—a well-earned achievement in tough conditions. Unfortunately, an attempt to break through for a boundary saw our third batter caught out. Our batters continued to work hard, with a few more runs added before another catch and a retirement due to injury in the 20th over brought us to 4-46.

The second half of the innings saw some determined batting, with another player retiring after a solid effort. The Valleys bowlers didn’t let up, claiming three wickets in consecutive overs. Our debut opener returned to add another run to their score, showing great resilience. A late partnership from the captain and the final batter added a few more hard-fought runs. Playing with the "last man standing" rule, the Cyclones fought until the 32nd over, finishing with a total of 69 runs.

After a short break, Valleys came out to bat. The Cyclones' captain set the tone immediately, delivering a fantastic maiden wicket in the first over. The Valleys also struggled with the slow field, managing just 16 runs by the 7th over thanks to disciplined bowling from the Cyclones. The first boundary of the game came for Valleys in the 8th over, but Cyclones kept their composure, limiting extras in the next few overs to just three and the spinner delivering a maiden. By the time stumps were called, Valleys had reached 1-34 after 14 overs. It was a morning filled with hard work, determination, and valuable lessons. Stimpson U13 continues to develop as a team with every game and their great attitude is being noticed across the competition!

Our Cross My Heart Cafe Player of the Week went to Ruby for her outstanding effort during our innings and being brave enough to open the batting for the first time!

U16 - Devine

Yesterday before the start of our 2nd game of the Post Xmas 2024/2025 Cricket Season, RCJCC Life Member Greg Devine official welcomed our new Club and team member Tyler Wilson to the Devine's U16's Team.

The Wilson family moved from Wodonga Victoria after Xmas. Tyler was presented his Club Baggy Blue Cap by Greg Devine and follow Life Member Paul Cross.

Also another new team member Phoebe Smith was given the opportunity to have a go at Wicket Keeping at the 42nd Over drinks break. During the last 13 overs of the day Phoebe took a good Caught behind to dismiss one of the middle order Sandgate Redcliffe batters. This also gave our regular Wicket Keeper Charlie Cross a chance to bowl taking 2 wickets and ending the day with 5 overs 2/24. Tyler Sharry also finished with 2 wickets 2/36, 1 maiden from 9 overs.

The team has a huge run chase next week chasing 286 after Sandgate Redcliffe finished at 6/285 from their 55 overs on a fantastic batting Wicket at home at Woody Point .
