U11 Smith-Wheeler

Our Under 11 Smith-Wheeler team played The Lakes Cricket Club Gold team at Scarborough State this afternoon. A hot start to the first game back, but the boys all fielded well with lots of energy. There were 2 great catches for Noah E in his first season out of Master Blasters, a superb run out by the cousins Henry and Tyson, and 2 brothers, Max and Kai, combined for a great wicket! Joseph opened the batting and top scored with 36, including 4 x 4’s, but player of the match went to Kai with an outstanding effort with the ball - 3 wickets for 4 off 2 overs! Overall a strong win against a developing team.

Great work boys

Highlights:

Kai H - Bowling 2 overs, 3/4

Joseph L - Batting 36 off 25, 4 fours.

U12 - Ryan - Dimmick

Highlights:

Hayden R - Batting 34 off 87, 6 fours

U13 - Stimpson

Stimpson U13 vs AC Tomahawks

A picture-perfect morning marked the start of the new season, with Filmer’s turf looking immaculate. After winning the toss, the Tomahawks chose to bat first, and the crowd eagerly watched as one of our new players confidently took to the bowling crease. A brilliant first over of four dot balls got us off to a strong start, but the Tomahawks managed a boundary on ball five. Our bowler quickly bounced back, delivering a fiery response that sent the first Tomahawk batter packing with a clean strike through the stumps.

Next up, our captain took to the ball with an almost flawless over, conceding just one extra. Two more tight overs followed, leaving the Hawks at 1-11 after four overs. Then the real excitement began. In just two overs, three more wickets fell—one clean bowled, and two fantastic catches, including a stunning mid-air dive! For a time, the Tomahawks found their rhythm, patiently accumulating runs. By the 18th over, they had reached 4-81. A quick-thinking fielder secured a vital run out, and a brilliant catch in the middle saw more Hawks back on the sidelines. Just before time was called, another catch and a second run out saw the Hawks finish their innings on 8-94.

The Cyclones’ response with the bat got off to a rocky start. The Hawks' opening bowler delivered a maiden, followed by a wicket in the second over. With the score at 1-18, our first batter retired, and the team pushed on, slowly building up another 7 runs. But the pressure mounted as another wicket fell in the 9th over. A change in the batter and bowler brought a bit of luck—an extras-filled over and a boundary lifted us to 2-38. However, the Hawks tightened their bowling again. After another batter was retired, a run out and a timely wicket left us at 4-50 after 13 overs. With the required target looming, things got even trickier when a sharp catch in the 14th over had us at 5-52. The wickets continued to tumble, and by over 20, three more Cyclones were sent back to the pavilion.

With just more than an over left and the score at 8-63, our first retiree came back in, and the final pair dug in for an entertaining finish. Unorthodox shots and dramatic dives at the crease helped them scrape together 10 more valuable runs, taking us to a final total of 8-73.

A fantastic start to the second half of the season! A thrilling match, with every catch executed to perfection by the Cyclones. We couldn't have asked for more (except the win ). Bring on next week!

Our Cross My Heart Cafe player of the match went to Brady for his mid-air catch and batting performance.

Game ball was presented to Bella for bowling a wicket in her first over of her first Cyclones game.

U14 Gower Match Report

And we’re back!!

U14 Gower took on The Valleys today in a one dayer. We welcomed back Callum to the team and new player Bryce. Cyclones won the toss and elected to bat first. The Valleys got off to a flyer and begun to retire players. Connor bowled exceptionally well today taking 2/22. Blake wrapped up the innings with a tidy 2/12, however The Valleys had set a sizeable total of 142.

Needing 5.5 an over, we lost a couple of wickets early. Some good middle order hitting by Travis and Jessie got us back on track, however wickets kept tumbling. Callum hit the winning runs in the last over with 2 wickets to spare.

The Cross My Heart Cafe’ Player of the match today went to Connor not only his bowling but also his determined batting efforts.
