Stimpson U13 Get the win in Season Final Match!
In their final match of the season, the Cyclones faced an early start at Filmer, where a bit of pre-match housekeeping saw the team checking the pitch and removing the cover. Winning the toss, the Cyclones opted to bowl first, aiming to complete their 26 overs before the change of innings.
The bowling attack got off to a strong start, with two fast bowlers limiting the Sandgate Gators to just 5 runs in the first two overs. Though the Gators added 15 more runs in the next four, the Cyclones' bowlers kept up the pressure and reduced extras. A change in pace brought immediate success with a run-out in the 9th over, and a superb bowl-and-catch combo in the 12th saw another Gator dismissed.
The next pair of bowlers quickly made an impact, with the spinner claiming two wickets in his spell. A few extras crept in during the next change, and it seemed the Gators might build some momentum. However, in the 21st over, a bowl-and-catch sent the Gators to 5-69. With time running out, the Cyclones completed 25 overs, and the Gators finished at 5-94.
After a quick break, the Cyclones’ batting innings began. A last-minute change saw a player make their debut as opener alongside the captain. The Gators’ bowlers applied pressure, but the Cyclones managed 7 runs in the first four overs. The captain fell to a contentious LBW in the 5th over, followed by a run-out, leaving the Cyclones at 2-7 after 5 overs.
However, the batting partnership regrouped, adding 24 runs by the 10th over, and a batter retired. The next pairing gained momentum, with a boundary-filled 13th over, including a 6, bringing the total to 2-73. Solid partnerships and boundaries saw the Cyclones in a strong position at 3-88 by the 17th over. With a quick 4 runs in the 17th and another in the 18th, they passed the target, securing the win by 5 wickets in just 18 overs.
With a few enthusiastic batters still waiting for their chance, the Cyclones opted to continue, rotating players to finish with 104 runs—victorious with time to spare. A strong finish to a successful season!
After the match, players were treated to a sausage sizzle and ice blocks while thank-yous were shared, and presentations were made, including a new baggy cap presented by the Peninsula Cricket Team.
What a morning!
