U13 - Stimpson
Coming off their first win of the season, Stimpson U13 were fired up and ready to take on the Albany Creek Hawks. Winning the toss, the team elected to bat first, with a game plan focused on building partnerships, protecting the wickets, and retiring as many batters as possible.
The innings began steadily but slowly. While the opposition contributed plenty of extras, runs were still hard to come by. After 8 overs, the team had managed 24 runs, with one opener retiring. The next 10 overs were just as challenging, but the batters dug in, adding another 20 runs and retiring 3 more players—all while maintaining a flawless record of no wickets lost. By the 25th over, the team had yet to lose a wicket, a solid achievement!
Shortly after one of the newest players got their first run of the season, the Hawks had a breakthrough and claimed two quick wickets, leaving the team at 2-71 after 25 overs. Then came a frustrating moment for one of the batters, who was stumped just out of the crease, leaving the score at 3-78.
The team regrouped, but another sharp catch sent the next batter back to the sidelines, bringing the score to 4-78. At this point, it was all about holding on and trying to keep the scoreboard ticking. A much-needed drinks break provided some relief from the heat, and the next pair of batters added a few more runs, both nearly making it to retirement. But, in overs 33 and 34, the Hawks struck again—first with a bowled dismissal, then a catch, leaving the score at 6-94.
Fortunately, the team still had players in hand, and the opening batters began returning to the crease. The Hawks, who had fumbled a few earlier chances, now managed to tighten their fielding, dismissing two returning batters in the next four overs—but not before they helped the team surpass the 100-run mark.
The final pair fought hard, and through the next few overs, added 18 more runs to the total. With time running out, the Hawks claimed the 9th wicket in the 45th over, and in the 50th over, dismissed the last batter, leaving Stimpson all out for 166.
Despite the challenging conditions, the team showed incredible resilience, and the total of 166 was a credit to their hard work. Now, they’ll look to use that same determination next week to restrict the Hawks and push for another win.
