Match Reports

U10 - Martin

U13 - Stimpson

Today marked a significant moment for Stimpson U13 as we stepped onto the pristine turf at Filmer for our first match of the season, following last week's rainout. With a blend of returning players and exciting new talent, excitement was in the air as we won the toss and chose to bowl.

We set the tone early, claiming our first wicket in just the 3rd over, after the ball was expertly caught. This early breakthrough ignited our team's spirit, allowing us to restrict our opponents to just a handful of runs in the following overs. The highlight of our bowling performance came in the 7th over when the hard work from recent training sessions paid off with a brilliant stumping, showcasing our teamwork and skill. Over 14 brought a fantastic catch from our wicketkeeper and our 4th wicket for the day was brilliantly bowled in the 19th over, giving the team a boost as we headed towards the end of the innings. Time restraints meant we changed after 22 overs were up, leaving the opposition at 4-102.

After a quick break, our batting line up took to the pitch with determination. However, a tough start saw us lose our first wicket in the very first over, putting us on the back foot. But the partnership between our 1st and 3rd batters brought hope as they navigated the bowling attack for the next 7 overs, building valuable runs.

Despite our valiant efforts, as wickets continued to fall, the chase became increasingly challenging. In the end, we finished with a respectable score of 8-85, having given it our all against a strong opponent. Notably, one of our players who had retired early remained not out, a testament to the fighting spirit of the team.

Though we didn't secure the win, the comradery and determination displayed today signal a promising season ahead for Stimpson U13. Bring on the next match!

The Under 13 Gower team members were also presented with their baggy blue caps at the match to signify them now being a senior member of the Cyclones.

U14 - Gower

After letting the opposition get away to a decent start with the bat last week, our focus this week was on quick wickets. Zac bowled exceptionally well without luck last week and started the same he finished off last week except this time he claimed a few scalps and got us off to the start we needed. Brax came on and bowled with pace taking 2 wickets in as many overs. No more spinners Brax! As The Lakes edged closer to our total, wickets kept tumbling. At stages the lakes lost 4/5 and again stumbled late loosing 3/1. The boys had a sniff and energy levels in the field were electric but the lakes eclipsed our total with 2 wickets in hand. They were all out shortly after. We batted out the reminder of the day. Brax and Kai showed some grit, listened to the team instruction and ensured a solid finish to the game. Standout contributions from:

Luke 48

Trav 32, 18 and 2/22

Brax 13, 23no and 2/3

Kai 16no

Blake 2/16

Zac 2/20

U14 Gower team

U16 - Devine

It was great to see the start of the summer season with the Cyclones U16 Devine team at the well prepared South Pine Sports Complex (south field). Albany Creek won the toss and put the cyclones into bat. There were a few good starts by Darcy, Issac P and Luka but the team didn't get much traction due to some tight bowling by Albany Creek. The team was all out for 73. The cyclones got to bowl 21 overs before the end of the first day. The bowling innings started very well with a wicket in the first over by Issac G, score of 1-1. A catch to Charlie off Issac G's bowling a few overs later made the score 2-16. Two overs later Riley took the batters stump out of the ground for an excellent bowled out (3-20). In the 18th over the next wicket fell with Darcy bowling the batter clean out (4-44). An excellent fielding effort meant that at the end of Day 1 Albany Creek were 4/51.

Day 2 high hopes that the cyclones could keep the Albany Creek total low and potentially a first innings win. Wickets didn't come until the 34th over where Issac P drawing the the batter out of his crease and got him stumped by the keeper Charlie ( 5-101). The very next over Luke bowled an amazing ball and got the batter LBW (6-102). Cooper took the next wicket in the 42nd over bowing the batter with a very straight ball (7-125). Jake got in on the action in the next over tempting him with a snick to the wicket keeper (8-128). In the 49th over Issac G was back on the bowling with 2 wickets with one batter caught by Charlie and the other bowled. Albany Creek all out 10-140 after 48.5 overs. Definitely need to work on reducing the number of extras.

Back into bat with just over an hour and a half remaining of play. The temperature for the batters was about 32 degrees making it hard work batting. The last ball of the first over unfortunately saw Tyler bowled out. After this Issac G and Luke steadied the ship with a partnership of 41. Issac G was the first retirement with Riley replacing him. Luke and Riley then went about a great 19 partnership before Luke retired. Max replacing Luke had a short amount of time at the crease but made it count with a quick fire 9 runs. At the end of the second innings the cyclones were and impressive 1/93 off 24 overs.

Standout contributions from:

Issac G - 4/13 off 7.5 overs with 1 maiden

Luke - 1/27 off 9 overs with 3 maidens

Cooper - 1/2 of 3 overs with 1 maiden

Jake - 1/4 off 3 overs with 1 maiden

Charlie - 3 catches, 1 stumping

Riley - 20 off 31 balls (2 fours)

Max - 9 off 10 balls (2 fours)
